I have had a long career in state and local government and nonprofit consulting in Sacramento, California, and my areas of expertise include social policy, affordable housing, data modeling and visualization, open data, and fiscal transparency. I am motivated by the idea of using the tools of government to improve people’s lives, particularly where the market does not produce an even playing field. Sometimes simply releasing information into the world and making it understandable enables change, by improving comprehension of what needs to change. Converting data into information and information into knowledge is one small way to give more power to the people.
